Recently, I heard someone mention the concept of so-so technology: disruption without delivering real improvements. This perfectly describes some of the AI innovations I see today. There’s a lot of focus on easy wins, leading to unfulfilling so-so technology solutions. Sure, things get automated, but are they better? Or even cheaper?
The power of AI
I think using AI should be about more than just replacing the existing. Imagine having a million brilliant assistants at your disposal—eager to help, willing to learn, empathic, and always available. What would you have them do? AI has the potential to transform how we work and what we achieve. It allows us to innovate in ways we could only dream of.
Dream BIG
To stay relevant, you should dream big. Innovation isn’t just about improving or merely replacing what already exists; it’s about envisioning and creating what doesn’t yet exist. AI provides the tools to turn some of these big dreams into reality.
After moderating more workshops than I can remember, I know that this greenfield thinking is complicated. And once you’ve come up with a great and very innovative idea, the next steps usually aren’t any easier.
Luckily there are a few steps to get started.
1. Set ambitious goals
Aim for AI applications that can revolutionize your processes or products. Consider how AI can transform outdated practices, realize bold visions, democratize exclusive services, or personalize mass-market offerings.
2. Structure your innovation efforts
Create task forces, build proofs of concept, and encourage individual initiatives. Celebrate successes, scale effective solutions, and reward innovation.
3. Be ruthless
Evaluate the possible long-term impact of AI. Assess how AI can destroy your current business model. Understanding this will help you to focus your thinking. Once you have an idea of where things might be going, chances are you will find a way to be part of that.
Doing different with the same is about organizing for a new organizational future. Dream bigger, think strategically, and drive real innovation! In case you need any help with that, don’t hesitate to reach out.
